Lee
Lee Roy Selmon's story combines family football scholarships and volunteerism in the community. In the first place the Selmons were born by Lucious Semon and his wife Jessie on an agricultural property near Eufala located in Oklahoma as the eldest of their nine children. He played second in football and was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy was named the top offensive lineman in nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. Over the course of three seasons, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. Also, they won 2 national titles. In 1975, he was awarded his third scholarship, and was recognized as a National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in volunteer work ten hour per week during his time at college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. He also began an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the top 10 young men in the country. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and was a tall of 7-foot-2. In his time at for college, he was the head coach of the 1975 team. In 1993 he was appointed as associate director at the University of South Florida. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
